December 11-12

We went to the Elk City, AKC shows where  Merlot (MBIS MBISS AKC/ASCA CH Rainyday's Red Red Wine) was BOB both days and earned a Group Four on Sunday.

We also received an email of "Megabrags" from Debbie Hanson who wrote:

I absolutely must send you megabrags after this weekend's AKC trial in Milwaukee.  We were entered for the first three days of the four-day trial -- it's a huge thing with 900 runs per day, "Hounds for the Holidays".  Marley was on fire this weekend!!  She loves the indoor soccer turf surface.  She came away with 5 Qs in 6 runs, absolutely unprecedented for us in AKC Excellent B!  She had a double Q on Thursday (our first in Exc. B, probably the first in about two years in AKC) and again on Saturday.  On Friday in JWW, my bad handling caused her to crash into a wooden wing jump.  The wing fell on her and she came up on three legs, the back right injured -- YIKES!  But she walked it off and a vet friend said she looked like she was moving OK.  Then a couple of hours later, she came back and qualified in Excellent Standard.  She earned 44 MACH points this weekend, and without multipliers (the 20 inch B class was huge, about 90 dogs, so no way did we ever place)!!  Not half bad for an 8.5 year old!  She now has 9 legs MX and 8 legs MXJ.  I'm seeing the light at the end of those tunnels now -- surely she will finish MX and MXJ titles early in 2005.

Miss Remy Rouge was another story.  We got one leg in 6 tries, her first leg in Open JWW.  Actually maybe it's the same story -- she loves the surface, so is extra fast, but she is still inexperienced and I am still a poor handler of her on top of being old and slow.  The great take-home message was that she got her contacts all weekend long.  They had disappeared quantitatively in October trials and we have been working hard to restore them in a trial atmosphere.   Something must have worked!

December 2-5

Not a bad weekend... Merlot (MBIS MBISS AKC/ASCA CH Rainyday's Red Red Wine) was BOB Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the Amarillo show and picked up a Group Three on Friday.
