MBIS MBISS AKC/ASCA CH Rainyday's Red Red Wine

 "Merlot"

AKC/INTL CH Firethorne's Intimidator  X  Cobbercrest Propwash Obla-De (ASCA/USASA HOF Dam)

Our first homebred ASCA champion, Merlot has always been a joy to live with and to show.  Merlot won the bred by exhibitor class at the 1999 USASA Nationals in Marshall, Texas at 15 months of age.  She finished both AKC and ASCA from the bred by class, and was BOB over specials to finish AKC.  Merlot's temperament is fantastic; she is a comedian and a toy fanatic.  Her effortless movement and stunning ring presence made her a bitch to watch for in the group rings. At two, Merlot  went BOB at the first annual Greater Wichita Australian Shepherd Club Regional Specialty over an entry of 95.  Merlot finished the 1999-2000 ASCA year in 14th place in only 6 months of limited showing and she finished the 2000 AKC year ranked #6 in All Breed and #8 in Breed standings.  She finished the 2001 AKC year ranked  #4 in both All Breed and Breed Standings. Merlot's rank earned her invitations to both the Eukanuba Classic and Westminster.

March 3, 2001 -- Merlot's first all breed Best in Show!!!!!  We are thrilled to announce that our breeder/owner handled Merlot is the first red merle Aussie bitch to ever achieve the huge success of BIS!!

Merlot attended her first ASCA nationals in September of 2001 and she had a great time! She showed all three days of the pre-shows. The first day Merlot was BOS over an entry of more than 65 lovely bitch specials. The second day she was awarded a Premier 5 and the third day she was awarded a Premier 10 award! Wow what fun!

Merlot attended her first Westminster in February of 2002 and was awarded Best of Opposite Sex.  A month later she showed at the third annual Greater Wichita Australian Shepherd Club Regional Specialty and won Best of Breed over an entry of over 100, including 23 other specials. This was Merlot's second specialty win.  Merlot finished 2002 as the number two Australian Shepherd (all systems) in AKC and was also number nine in ASCA (in 8 weekends of ASCA shows all year).

Merlot attended her second Westminster in February of 2003 and was awarded Best of Opposite Sex.  A month later she won the Greater Wichita Australian Shepherd Club Regional Specialty for the third time. In September of 2003 Merlot won her second all breed Best in Show. She was only the third Aussie bitch to win more than one best.  Merlot was shown on a very limited basis in 2003 and was ranked in the top 5 all year.  In fact, Merlot was the only dog ranked in the top ten in both AKC and ASCA.

Merlot was out on a limited basis in 2004. She was awarded an Award of Merit at Westminster 2004. In September Merlot won her third all breed BIS. She is the top winning breeder/owner handled bitch in breed history and ended the year the #2 Aussie in Breed points and #4 in All Breed points.

Merlot is enjoying a well earned retirement but was been out for a few special appearances in 2005. She was BOS at Westminster in February and then attended the USASA Nationals in April where she was BOB Veteran in the Sweepstakes and then earned an AOM (one of seven) in BOB from the veteran's class.

Merlot continues to hold the record for the top winning breeder/owner/handled bitch in breed history.
